Uesugi Shrine in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture, enshrines Uesugi Kenshin, the brilliant 'Dragon of Echigo' of the Warring States era, within the moated grounds of the former Yonezawa Castle. The site comes alive during the Uesugi Snow Lantern Festival in winter and samurai-themed festivities in spring.
