Kōtai Jingū
皇大神宮
Kotai Jingu is the formal name of the Inner Shrine (Naiku) of Ise Jingu, the holiest sanctuary in Shinto, where the sun goddess Amaterasu is enshrined. Crossing the Uji Bridge over the Isuzu River, pilgrims walk through ancient forest to a thatched sanctuary rebuilt every twenty years in unaltered ancient style.
