Aoshima Shrine occupies a small subtropical island off Miyazaki, ringed by the striking 'Devil's Washboard' rock formations and lush palms. Linked to the myth of the sea princess Toyotama-hime and her beloved, it is a popular shrine for love and marriage, reached by a bridge across the beach.
