Tsurugaoka Hachimangū

鶴岡八幡宮

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu is Kamakura's principal shrine, founded by the Minamoto clan and moved to its present site by Minamoto no Yoritomo, Japan's first shogun. Dedicated to Hachiman, patron of warriors, it crowns a long ceremonial avenue from the sea and hosts dramatic mounted archery (yabusame) each autumn.
