Kashima Jingu in Ibaraki Prefecture is dedicated to Takemikazuchi, the thunder deity of martial valor, making it a place of pilgrimage for practitioners of budo. Its deep forest hides the kaname-ishi, a stone said to pin down the giant catfish that causes earthquakes, and sacred deer roam an enclosure in the grounds.
