Enryaku-ji Temple
延暦寺
Enryaku-ji, spread across Mount Hiei above Kyoto, is the head temple of Tendai Buddhism, founded by the monk Saicho. Part of a UNESCO World Heritage listing, it was the training ground of many founders of later Buddhist schools, and its Konpon Chudo hall shelters a flame said to have burned for centuries.
