Kotohira-gū

金刀比羅宮

Kotohira-gu, affectionately known as Konpira-san, sits partway up a mountain in Kagawa Prefecture and has long been worshipped as the guardian of seafarers. Pilgrims climb 785 stone steps to the main shrine — and over 1,300 to the inner shrine — passing shops, gates, and sweeping views over the Sanuki plain.
