Senso-ji in Asakusa is Tokyo's oldest temple, dedicated to Kannon, the bodhisattva of compassion. Visitors enter through the Kaminarimon gate with its giant red lantern, then walk the lively Nakamise shopping street to the main hall and five-story pagoda — one of Japan's most visited spiritual sites.
